MetroMentors Program Looking for a Few Good Men

One Hour a Week is All it Takes to Make a Difference in a Child’s Life

School is back in session and MetroMentors, the school-based youth mentoring program, is in need of adult (18 yrs. and older) mentors—especially men—to match with children who are waiting to be paired with a mentor. MetroMentors also is looking for volunteers who can donate time during the school day.

MetroMentors has been matching caring adult mentors with DuPage area youth for more than 30 years. The program is operated by Metropolitan Family Services DuPage, which has been empowering DuPage families in need and changing lives since 1930. These professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships offer positive adult role models to elementary and middle school children who can benefit from extra support in their lives.

“Mentoring helps improve children's self-esteem, social competence, academic achievement, and positive life choices,” said Program Coordinator Marsha Ndoko. “In addition, we believe that through a combination of time, volunteering, and generosity of spirit, a mentor can give and gain life-long benefits from the partnership. And it only takes one hour a week.”

DuPage businesses, corporations, churches and service clubs are invited to partner with the program in providing mentors to a school in their area. MetroMentors will work with your group and the school to tailor a program that works for everyone. Orientations, interviews, training can all be done at your site and at a time that fits your schedule. Think of what just one hour a week can do for a child!
