Community Corner

Marian Park Resource Fair

June 20th the community of Marian Park gathered for a Resource Fair.  The DuPage County Area Project , Marian Park, and People’s Resource Center organized this fair to bring the resources of Wheaton to Marian Park so that the residents would have a face to the resources and be more comfortable to pick up the phone and call with questions.  The resources that attended were the DuPage Senior Citizens Council, Exodus World Service, Wheaton Park District, World Relief, People’s Resource Center, Prairie State Legal Services, University of Illinois Extension, Wheaton Police Department, Metropolitan Family Services, DuCAP, Wheaton Public Library, and St. Matthews Church.

The day started off with an Art Show of the art work of Marian Park residents.  The artwork ranged from portraits to abstract pictures and several of the pieces were done by residents that were unable to even write their name due to their lack of schooling.  Following that was a picnic put on by St. Matthews Church, who provided all the meat and grilled it up.  The residents provided sides and what a feast it was!  Residents were able to mingle with each other, meet the resources, play bags, and a DJ even showed up to liven up the picnic.  Overall, it was great to see the community come together to engage with the resources that were present.

If you want to be involved with the work that DuCAP does by volunteering or donating or simply want more information please call Bob at (630) 671-8000.
