Community Corner

Marian Park Back 2 School Picnic

In light of the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington yesterday, there is no better way to describe Wednesday night’s Marian Park Back  2 School Picnic than a display of a community working together.  Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity”.  At the picnic all people pitched in to make it a successful picnic and display King’s idea of rising above their own concerns.  The picnic was run by the Neighborhood Action Club members.  They grilled the hot dogs and burgers and served the food to the community.  Kids helped to clean up the trash lying around after eating. The broader community beyond Marian Park pitched in as well.  We had a DJ come and donate his time and talents.  Mayor Gresk came and manned the grill, and Massage Envy donated an hour massage to raffle off to the community members.  It was inspiring to see the community come together to serve each other and celebrate a new school year.
