Free Tech Seminars for Seniors to Cover Photos, Communicating, Tablets

Following its highly successful Senior TechRally events, Windsor Park, 124 Windsor Park Dr., Carol Stream, is hosting a series of three free seminars designed to help seniors take advantage of the newest mobile technologies. Each 90-minute session will begin at 11 a.m., and focus on a single topic.  

Photo Basics: Tuesday, July 16, or Tuesday, August 20, 11 a.m.Learn how to upload photos to your computer and photo sites, how to sync sites to tablets, and how to use sites to make photo books. The seminar will also cover sharing photos through online sites, social media and email. 

Tablet Basics: Thursday July 18, or Wednesday, Sept. 11, 11 a.m.One-piece mobile computers, tablets offer seniors a great segue into mobile technology. The seminar will cover how to use a tablet and the differences between Android and Apple system. You’ll learn about apps, how to use the built-in camera and photo roll, how to use utilities, and how to access websites and email.

Communicating Electronically: Tuesday, Aug. 13, or Thursday, Sept. 12, 11 a.m.Learn how to make free Internet calls with Skype and how to use FaceTime. Pick up the basics so you can get started social networking on Facebook, communicating via text message and sending emails from mobile devices. Seminar instructor Marissa Samaan is a self-proclaimed digital devotee with a passion for helping seniors learn about technology. As sales director at Windsor Park, she has a front row seat on senior’s use of mobile devices. “I see people who want to do things — write books, share photos, communicate with their families. The technology is at their fingertips. All they need to know is what to do with their fingers once they get the devices in their hands.”
