Costumed Rocky Horror fans top fundraisers in charity walk for local domestic violence shelter

Costumed Rocky Horror performers top fundraisers in Hero for Hope walk benefiting Family Shelter Service

Completely Crazy, a Rocky Horror Picture Show “shadowcast” will be fielding a team for the annual “Heroes for Hope” fundraising walk in downtown Downers Grove – all proceeds benefit Family Shelter Service, a domestic violence shelter with multiple branches in DuPage county.  The team will walk 5K in Rocky Horror costumes.  Last year Completely Crazy won top fundraising team and top individual fundraiser, raising more than $3000, and they are on track to do it again this year, having raised $2000 as of September 19.

Completely Crazy is an amateur theatrical group that has been acting out Rocky Horror in front of the movie screen at various locations in Chicago and the Chicago suburbs since 1989.  They have been doing midnight shows on Saturdays at the Hollywood Blvd theater in Woodridge since 2004.  Tickets are $8.

Cast members perform in full costume and makeup, with a lighting and props crew.  Audience members are encouraged to dress up and bring “virgins” (people who have never seen the movie) – virgins are marked with a “V” in red lipstick brought onstage before the show, where they perform a variety of silly acts as part of the preshow festivities.  The cast sells “prop kits” so audience members can participate in the Rocky Horror experience, throwing rice and toast, wearing party hats, and shouting at the screen during the film.
