Fast Facts: The premier boys volleyball tournament in the Midwest returns to WWS this week, and the championship game will be broadcast on CN100. Most of the top teams, and players, in the state of Illinois are in the field, as well as Ohio powers Hilliard Darby and Moeller and St. Louis threat DeSmet Jesuit. Defending state champion Downers Grove South highlights the list of teams; Lincoln-Way East is the top team in Illinois in the preseason. Royer is one of the state’s best players, and he is flanked by a powerhouse senior lineup. The state’s most decorated team, Wheaton Warrenville South, cannot be overlooked. It was a rare down year for the Tigers last year, finishing 16th in their own tournament, but they started only one senior and are re-loaded this year. No matter which teams make it through the grueling, 24-team field, the final match will have a handful of Division I recruits and national-level players.
