After Election Night Website Outage, DuPage Pledges Improvements

County officials said that the amount of traffic caught them by surprise and hampered the ability of the public to access election results.

Officials for DuPage County are saying that the influx of traffic to their election results website, which crashed the page between 8 and 10 p.m. on Tuesday night, has been a wake-up call to necessary improvements, the Chicago Tribune reports. According to the paper, the problem was caused when the available bandwidth was exceeded; page views peaked at 15,000 within a few minutes, 5,000 more than the peak in the 2012 elections. "If you asked me 72 hours ago if the site would peak out 50 percent higher than a presidential election, I would've laughed," Robert Saar, the election commission's executive director, told the paper. "Everybody here had their eyes opened. We're disappointed that it happened, but I'm extremely confident that going …

Voters Say 'No' to Jefferson Referendum

Voters in District 200 reject a $17.6 million referendum to build a new Jefferson Early Childhood Center.

Updated 10:04 a.m. Voters in Community Unit School District 200 have officially turned down the district's plan to bond $17.6 million to build a new Jefferson Early Childhood Center, with 6,937 of 11,687 votes against the referendum and all precincts reporting. The District 200 Board of Education in January voted 6-1 to pass a resolution to put the question on the April 9 ballot after reviewing design presentations and available financing options for the new school.  The estimated tax increase for residents in a $200,000 to $500,000 home would have been $19 to $51, respectively, over the next 10 years and a difference in their tax decrease in levy year 2023. Since this is a private school, I assume there will be no direct cost to CUSD 200. However, we know that if the district does not have a suitable program for a child, that the district will pay the tuition to a private school that has a program. Only time will tell, how this school moving to Wheaton will affect us. I have often thought that vouchers for special needs students would make a lot of …   more ›
