Wheaton families enjoyed an ice cream social at Whittier Elementary Wednesday to join the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce in the effort to collect school supplies for District 200 students in need.

With an estimated high temperature of 91 (though mid-day it felt much higher than that) the second day of the Taste of Wheaton was balmy, but delightful. There was something for everyone: shopping, games, carnival rides, music and of course, food! Wheaton residents talk about their favorite parts of the Taste of Wheaton: "My favorite part is the food" said Ryan Gagliano, "I'm excited about the rides for my son, it's the first year he can participate." "The inflatables and the carnival rides are my favorite part of the Taste" Krista Boba said.
Wheaton again showed its appreciation for our armed forces on this Memorial Day. In spite of sweltering heat, group after group joined the parade, marching down streets lined with local residents cheering them on. The Wheaton Police and Fire Department led the parade, followed by veterans, girl scouts and boy scouts, and marching bands from Wheaton schools. Boy scouts in Wheaton will soon have a freshly painted, refurbished cabin at Northside Park thanks to Wheaton Rotary Club members who committed their weekend time to rehabbing for the first time in 40 years. Rotary members spent their Saturday morning painting the cabin's windows, walls and bathroom for the scouts. In addition to painting, the club will replace the cabin's electrical wiring, update its heating system, install new screens and replace the kitchen cabinets. The alleyway behind Wheaton Drama turned into an Indian slum Tuesday to set the scene for the feature film, Broken & Beautiful. Still in pre-poduction, Director and Glen Ellyn native Erin Dalian and crew members filmed a scene taking place in the slums of India Tuesday, featuring Warrenville native and Wheaton Warrenville South graduate, Peter Sipla.

Families flocked to Graf Park in Wheaton Sunday with their kites in hand. At stake: the Wheaton record for the largest number of kites in the air at once. While it was a cool day, the wind was a friend and participants had no problems getting their kites as high as their string would allow. If watching all the "regular" kites wasn't enough, all anyone needed to do was peek over at the 60-foot octopus or the giant cat to see which kite lovers got creative this year. Girls Lacrosse is alive and well in Wheaton. WWS-WN United is a co-op of Wheaton Warrenville South and Wheaton North High Schools. As a club sport, they do not receive funding from the schools and must pay for their own uniforms and other equipment. United has its roots in a club team formed at WWS six years ago. Four years ago, girls from WWS and WN joined forces to form United. On Sunday March 6th, the B.R. Ryall Indian Guides and Indian Princesses held their annual Pinewood Derby race at the YMCA. They call it the Indi-N-500. This event challenges fathers and children to build cars out of blocks of wood, decorate them and race them down a track. Cars have to meet specifications which include length, width, and weight. This year the cars could not exceed 5 oz. Participants start designing and building cars shortly after the first of the year. A lot of care is put into the car as the difference between 1st ans 2nd place can be hundreds of a second. There are separate…
