Every year, the Friends of the Wheaton Municipal Band awards scholarships to Wheaton students who plan to pursue musical studies. This year’s $500 Graduating Senior Scholarship winner is Kevin Busse from Wheaton Warrenville South High School. Busse will study music composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he plans to develop compositional and lyrical skills and further hone his improvisational skills on Saxophone, Piano and guitar. Kevin, the son of Kenneth and Karen Busse, was chosen for this award because of his passion for continuing his musical studies and his demonstration of how the pure joy of music can make a difference in someone’s life.
In addition, four Wheaton students will receive $250 Music Camp Scholarships. This year’s winners are:
- Steve Franklin, trumpet, a home-schooled junior attending the Masterworks Festival in Winona Lake, IN;
- Alex Wille, voice, a Wheaton Warrenville South freshman attending the Show Choir Camps of America at Millikin University, Decatur, IL;
- Clay Corso, piano, a Wheaton North freshman attending the Jazz Combo Camp at Elmhurst College; and
- Lauren Liebman, french horn, a Wheaton North sophomore attending the Kendall Betts Horn Camp in Lyman, NH.
