Woman Sentenced for Crash into Wheaton House
Allison Smolinski will return to prison for charges related to a January crash into a Wheaton home, injuring one, the Naperville Sun reports.
A Downers Grove woman charged in three accidents, including a crash into a Wheaton home in January, was convicted of a felony charge of aggravated DUI and sentenced to three years in prison in DuPage County court this week, according to the Naperville Sun.
Allison Smolinski, 22, faced charges of aggravated DUI causing great bodily harm, leaving the scene of an accident, property damage and driving too fast for conditions after the Jan. 10 accident near the intersection of Farnham Lane and Huntleigh Street in Wheaton.
According to a press release the Wheaton Police Department sent after the crash, Smolinski was ejected from her 1997 Nissan after it hit a tree and then the house. A passenger was trapped inside, police said. Authorities later found she was involved in two other crashes before hitting the house that afternoon, according to the release.
Smolinski was also on parole at the time of the crash for a burglary conviction in Kane County. She was arrested by Elgin police in 2007 and received 30 months of probation in a plea agreement with prosecutors after briefly being placed in a pre-trial diversion program, records show. She also was removed from Kane’s drug court program and eventually sent to prison for violating her probation.
She spent about 10 months in prison before getting paroled in December 2010. Records do not indicate when Smolinski’s parole was scheduled to end.
Judge George Bakalis decided the term Wednesday, and Smolinski 240 days of credit toward her sentence for time she spent in DuPage County Jail since her arrest, according to the Naperville Sun report.
