Wheaton 4th of July Events Canceled

The Wheaton Park District has canceled all Fourth of July festivities, including the fireworks, parade and carnival.

The Wheaton Park District has canceled all Fourth of July festivities planned for this year, including the and carnival on July 3 and on July 4.

According to a message from the park district, all activities are canceled due to the July 1 storm. DuPage County has proclaimed that a "State of Emergency" exists in Wheaton.

With power lines and trees down throughout the city—including a major part of the Fourth of July parade route on Main Street, it's unclear when ComEd will clear all hazards, said City of Wheaton Spokeswoman Susan Bishel.

Wheaton City Manager Don Rose said there is no estimation of a time ComEd will be available to restore the power lines that are down in and around the DuPage County complex. He said it's "doubtful" that the downed power lines on Manchester Road, in the fairgrounds and along the parade route on Main Street will be removed by the time of the parade.

Rose added that there is no estimated time of return of services to ComEd customers on the north side of Wheaton. According to ComEd's outage map, approximately 18,000 customers lost power Sunday. As of around 9 p.m. Monday, 5,590 customers remained without power in Wheaton.

The Fourth of July 2012 activities have not been rescheduled, according to the message from the park district. Residents with questions may email dnovak@wheatonparks.org or abendy@wheatonparks.org.
