Cromwell and Arrowhead To Reopen, Orchard Next to Close During Road Project

Openings and closings pushed back to next week as part of Butterfield Road Project.

UPDATE: The planned reopening of Cromwell and Arrowhead drives along Route 56 has been pushed back to next week, city engineering officials said Thursday morning.

Utility issues related to those intersections were discovered late Wednesday, which caused the delay. Officials now expect to open Cromwell and Arrowhead next week.

--------

Officials anticipate the reopening of Cromwell and Arrowhead drives at Route 56 on Thursday, as the Butterfield Road Project continues to move forward.

But, with those openings, a new closure will begin. Orchard Road at Route 56 will be shut down for up to two weeks. Electronic road signs have been posted to alert drivers to the closure.

All of this is associated with the large-scale Butterfield Road reconstruction and widening project run by the Illinois Department of Transportation. Officials encourage drivers to continue to use caution in and around the Butterfield construction zones, and to follow rules regarding cell phone use and worker safety.

.....So you're telling us Butterfield is going to be closed for 2 weeks?????? Is this even possible?

The headline was correct, but originally there was a typo in this brief that said both Orchard "and" Butterfield. It obviously should - and now does - say Orchard "at" Butterfield.

Its not closing on Thursday, they have yet to surface Cromwell. Before you quote a construction company, drive by and see how slow these guys work. This crew is working at a snails pace.

This was the city's information as of earlier this week, and they did say the reopening of these streets was "anticipated" for Thursday.

The city is wrong, as usual. The signs on Butterfield state that they have pushed back the change to next week. I would not rely on the City.

John is right. The electronic signs said opening June 26 -- but to be fair, the electronic signs as of yesterday were saying June 21 re-opening.

I've left a message with the engineering department to get clarification on whether something has changed since it put out the information earlier this week. Stay tuned.

Story has been topped with an update that confirms the changes were pushed back to next week because of a utility issue discovered late yesterday. Thanks to all for pointing this out.

Cromwell at Butterfield is open to traffic, however it is not done! Very large drop off and the median's curb is not repaired.
