Consultants Present 'Festival Street' Ideas for Downtown Wheaton
Consultants from Design Workshop present three "festival street" ideas for downtown Wheaton in strategic plan open house.
Consultants from Design Workshop last week presented ideas for downtown Wheaton as they work with city officials to establish a strategic plan for the area.
Included in the presentation were mockups of possible "festival streets" that would be the destination site for major events such as the Taste of Wheaton, including Front Street, Hale Street, Karlskoga Avenue and Liberty Drive.
On Hale Street, Design Workshop presented a design that would include "Tivoli-style" string lights with cable supports between street light poles, angled on-street parking areas, portable outdoor dining areas with perimeter planters and moveable decks, a planter area and a permeable paver system to accommodate and transport excess storm water run-off.
The Karlskoga Avenue design would also include Tivoli lighting and a permeable paver system, and portable vendor tents.
Residents can weigh in on Design Workshop's ideas in an online survey here.
