Wheaton Pink Events a "Huge Success" for Park District and Downtown Wheaton Association
After a successful month of "pink" events to honor breast cancer awareness and research, the Wheaton Park District and the Downtown Wheaton Association will team up again next year and host "Pink Week in Wheaton."
This year, On Oct. 2, the Lincoln Marsh held its 3rd Annual Walk for Awareness, for Breast Cancer. A total of $2452.84 was donated to Central DuPage Hospital's Breast Health Center. Terra Johnson, Lincoln Marsh program manager, said, "We are very pleased with the success of the Lincoln Marsh Walk for Awareness and are proud that with the support of our participants and sponsors, we have been able to raise more than $7,000 for the Breast Health Center in Winfield."
Weeks later, the Downtown Wheaton Association held it's Pretty in Pink event, a ladies night out in downtown Wheaton on Thursday, Oct.14. There was no cost for the event; however, 10 percent of the proceeds of the total sales of participating stores were donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
The Walk for Awareness is a two-mile walk which begins at the west end of Lincoln Avenue in Wheaton, winds through the trails of the Lincoln Marsh Natural Area and down the Prairie Path. The event included post-walk refreshments, by Caribou Coffee and participation from Downtown Wheaton Association and DuPage Chiropractic and our valued sponsor, Central DuPage Hospital.
Pretty in Pink offered Wheaton residents another way to support breast cancer awareness. Participating shops in downtown Wheaton stayed open for the duration of the 3-hour event.
