Obituary courtesy of Williams-Kampp Funeral Home:
Dr. Neidballa passed away Sunday, August 5, 2012. He was born on March 23, 1936, the son of Dr. Edward Neidballa and Beulah Neidballa, nee Stark.
He was a graduate of Howe Military Acadamy (1954), known as the "Bristol Flash", a super basketball player. He was a graduate of Northwestern University, Phi Kappa Psi fraternity (1958), Northwestern University Medical School (1961), and completed his training with an Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis (1965).
Dr. Neidballa served as a captain in the US Army assigned to the 12th Evacuation Hospital in CuChi, VietNam. (1966-1968) On September 13, 1958, Dick married his college sweetheart Barbara Mae Olson of Oak Park, Illinois. After Vietnam, Dick and Barbara moved to Wheaton, Illinois to join the Glen Ellyn Clinic in private practice. In 1973 he worked to establish DuPage Internal Medicine where he remained for the rest of his career.
Dr. Neidballa was elected a Fellow of the American College of Physicians in 1977, President of Central DuPage Hospital Medical Staff in 1981, CDH Board of Governors 1984-90. He received the Advanced Achievement Award in Internal Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine 1987, and received the Central DuPage Hospital Governors Award in 1992.
Throughout the years Dick and Barbara welcomed many people into their home and family for short or extended periods of time. When he was not working, Dick was an avid fly fisherman. Best of all were trips with family and friends to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. We only had to eat his "pan-seared trout" once on every trip. He told us that "of course, all the rest of his magnificent catch had been resuscitated and released back into the stream."
He was also a passionate Northwestern football fan and after 40 years of season tickets he was rewarded with a trip to the Rose Bowl in 1996. His proudest moment, however, was as team physician for the Wheaton North High School football championship season in 1986.
Dick is survived by his wife Barbara, his children Greg (Melissa), Susan (Mark) and David (Jamie), his grandchildren Julien, Nick, Jackie, Caroline, Jocelyn, Bo, and Charlie, his almost "son" Claudio (Sondra) of Tucson, Arizona and Dick's brother Dan (Chris) of St. Louis, Missouri.
Please join us for a celebration of Dick's life on Thursday, September 13th from 5-9pm at Arrowhead Golf Club, 26W151 Butterfield Rd, Wheaton 60189.
