College Financial Representative Receives Northwestern Mutual Internship Award

The Northwestern Mutual has named Mark Schmitt, a resident of Wheaton, and a student at Wheaton College, a “Power of 10 Award” winner. The Power of 10 Award recognizes college financial representative interns who have obtained a specific level of success in building their business and developing their client base. Historically, Power of 10 Award winners are in the top fifteen percent of the internship program across the country. Schmitt is a member of The McTigue Financial Group in Oak Brook.
Since 1997, Northwestern Mutual’s Financial Representative Internship program has been named among the America’s Top Ten Internships within the financial services industry according to the 2011 Vault Guide to Internships. “The Financial Representative Internship Program allows students to learn about the insurance industry, to explore the career and to test their self-discipline,” says Theresa Taylor, Director of Internship Development at The McTigue Financial Group of Northwestern Mutual.
This year The McTigue Financial Group will select 50 college students to participate in the internship program. College representatives have the opportunity to test drive a career in financial services and to:
- Become fully licensed in Life, Accident and Health Insurance
- Learn about a wide variety of risk management, wealth accumulation, and wealth distribution financial products
- Receive training on how to effectively develop client relationships
- Participate in ongoing mentoring to enhance students’ overall internship experience
- Conduct their own client meetings and work in a joint work capacity with experienced financial representative
The internship opportunity runs all year. The McTigue Financial Group continues to interview college students seeking internships. The internship program is open to full-time undergraduate and graduate students, and the college representatives work on a commission basis. Since the program began in 1967, nationwide more than 25,000 college representative have participated in the internship.
